O believers! Allah says in His Scripture:
شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ الَّذِي أُنزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ هُدًى لِّلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَاتٍ مِّنَ الْهُدَى وَالْفُرْقَانِ
Ramaḍân is the month in which the Quran was revealed as a guide for humanity with clear proofs of guidance and the decisive authority.
(Quran, Surah al-Baqarah, 2: 185)
We, O servants of Allah, by the grace of Allah, are now in this month – the month of the Quran. Therefore, it is very important to remind us of what our attitude should be towards the Quran – the Book of Allah – from the point of view of beliefs, from the point of view of faith, from the point of view of deeds and from the point of view of behavior.
O servants of Allah! All letters, words of the Quran and all its meanings are the Word of our Creator. The Almighty Himself pronounced it, and Jibril (peace be upon him) heard the words of the Quran from Him. Jibril is the head of the angels. He brought it, descending with it to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Allah Almighty Himself speaks about this in the Quran:
وَإِنَّهُ لَتَنزِيلُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ نَزَلَ بِهِ الرُّوحُ الْأَمِينُ عَلَى قَلْبِكَ لِتَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُنذِرِينَ بِلِسَانٍ عَرَبِيٍّ مُّبِينٍ
This is certainly a revelation from the Lord of all worlds, which the trustworthy spirit ˹Gabriel˺ brought down into your heart ˹O Prophet˺—so that you may be one of the warners— in a clear Arabic tongue.
(Quran, Surah al-Shu’ara, 26: 192-195)
The predecessors said:
منه بَدَا وإليه يعود
“The Quran began with Allah and will return to Him.”
“The Quran began from Allah…” – this means that it came from Allah. Allah is the One who pronounced it. The Quran was not created. Sometimes it is heard from some brothers who, out of ignorance, say: “When Allah created the Quran.” No, the Quran was not created! Anyone who says that the Quran is a creation is an unbeliever and leaves the religion of Allah. Such a person ceases to magnify Allah Almighty and His Word.
The Quran – منه بَدَا – came from Him, He pronounced it.
“وإليه يعود – … and to Him he will return” – this means that before the End of the World, in the last days before the Day of Judgment, when people stop reading the Quran, understanding the Quran, believing in the Quran and acting in accordance with the Quran, Allah Almighty will not allow His Scripture (His Word) to be degraded. Allah Almighty will make sure that in one night the Quran will be lifted from the Earth, and not a single verse will remain, not a single letter will remain in anyone’s memory, and not a single verse will remain on any page or in any scroll.
O servants of Allah! The Quran is the Book of al-Hidayah, that is, the Book of direct guidance and instruction. This is the Book of Happiness! This is the Book of Success! This is a Book of healing for people from all diseases. Allah sent down this Scripture for us as instruction and guidance, showing us the path of good. The Quran is a light for believers! The Quran is a shining light for the God-fearing! This is healing for our hearts!
Allah Almighty says:
إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ
Surely this Quran guides to what is most upright
(Quran, Surah al-Isra, 17:9)
Also Allah says:
We send down the Quran as a healing and mercy for the believers
(Quran, Surah al-Isra, 17: 82)
O servants of Allah, to be guided by the Quran and to truly receive healing from the Quran, it is not enough to simply read the Quran, just to read its words. You definitely need to read the Quran and you need to understand it, you need to reflect on its meanings, on its instructions. And having understood, act! Having understood, you need to do what you understand. Then a person is called one who reads the Quran.
Allah Almighty says:
الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَتْلُونَهُ حَقَّ تِلَاوَتِهِ أُولَئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ
Those We have given the Book follow it as it should be followed. It is they who ˹truly˺ believe in it.
(Quran, Surah al-Baqarah, 2: 121)
The predecessors said: “Those who read the Quran truly means: those who act in accordance with it.”
Allah Almighty says:
كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ
˹This is˺ a blessed Book which We have revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ so that they may contemplate its verses, and people of reason may be mindful.
(Quran, Surah “Sad”, 38: 29)
O servants of Allah! Truly, the Quran is the greatest of the signs that were given to any of the prophets. Sometimes they say it is a miracle, but it is correct to call it a sign. And this is a sign that will be eternal until the Day of Judgment. This is an everlasting sign.
If the signs that were given to the prophets were in their time, and they are no longer there, then the Quran is a sign and a miracle that will remain for centuries, and the miracles of the Quran will not end. And even people cannot understand the unsurpassability of this Quran. And one cannot get tired of numerous readings of the Quran. The Quran cannot get boring because it is the Word of Allah Almighty.
The Quran is sublime! You cannot rise above him. Therefore, Allah Almighty challenged people and jinn – these two difficult types of creations: create, write, compose something similar to this Quran, even if not the entire Quran, at least one similar surah. Allah Almighty said that they would not be able to do this, even if they all gathered for this and helped each other.
Allah Almighty says:
قُل لَّئِنِ اجْتَمَعَتِ الْإِنسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَى أَن يَأْتُوا بِمِثْلِ هَذَا الْقُرْآنِ لَا يَأْتُونَ بِمِثْلِهِ وَلَوْ كَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ظَهِيرًا
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If ˹all˺ humans and jinn were to come together to produce the equivalent of this Quran, they could not produce its equal, no matter how they supported each other.
(Quran, Surah al-Isra, 17: 88)
O servants of Allah! We must know that the Quran is all muhkam, meaning, it is all perfect, there are no shortcomings or shortcomings there! And the Quran is all mutashabih, that is, all its verses are similar, and there are no disagreements or contradictions between them, they are all in agreement and harmony with each other, and they are all perfect! There can be no contradictions in the Book of Allah.
Allah Almighty says:
كِتَابٌ أُحْكِمَتْ آيَاتُهُ
˹This is˺ a Book whose verses are well perfected
(Quran, Surah “The Self”, 11:1)
And Allah Almighty says:
اللَّهُ نَزَّلَ أَحْسَنَ الْحَدِيثِ كِتَابًا مُّتَشَابِهًا
˹It is˺ Allah ˹Who˺ has sent down the best message—a Book of perfect consistency and repeated lessons
(Qur’an, sura «az-Zumar», 39: 23)
“Similar to each other” means that they are all in agreement with each other and in harmony. There is no contradiction there!
Allah Almighty also says:
وَإِنَّهُ لَكِتَابٌ عَزِيزٌ
لَّا يَأْتِيهِ الْبَاطِلُ مِن بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَلَا مِنْ خَلْفِهِ تَنزِيلٌ مِّنْ حَكِيمٍ حَمِيدٍ
for it is truly a mighty Book.
It cannot be proven false from any angle. ˹It is˺ a revelation from the ˹One Who is˺ All-Wise, Praiseworthy.
(Quran, Surah Fussylat, 41: 41-42)
Allah Almighty also said:
أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ وَلَوْ كَانَ مِنْ عِندِ غَيْرِ اللَّهِ لَوَجَدُوا فِيهِ اخْتِلَافًا كَثِيرًا
Do they not then reflect on the Quran? Had it been from anyone other than Allah, they would have certainly found many inconsistencies in it.
(Quran, Surah an-Nisa, 4: 82)
The person who says that he has found some inconsistency or contradiction in the Quran should fear Allah. If you find a contradiction in the Quran, then the contradiction is not there, but in you, in your mind, in an imperfect, weak, vicious mind or in your intention. Take a look there…
O servants of Allah! Allah Almighty in His Scripture threatens with terrible punishment those people who dare and show such audacity to say anything about the Quran (about the Speech of Allah) without knowledge, who invent something about the Word of Allah, somehow interpret it in their own way, interpret it according to – to their own or deny something. A painful punishment for such!
Allah Almighty says:
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِي آيَاتِنَا لَا يَخْفَوْنَ عَلَيْنَا أَفَمَن يُلْقَى فِي النَّارِ خَيْرٌ أَم مَّن يَأْتِي آمِنًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ اعْمَلُوا مَا شِئْتُمْ إِنَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ
Indeed, those who abuse Our revelations1 are not hidden from Us. Who is better: the one who will be cast into the Fire or the one who will be secure on Judgment Day? Do whatever you want. He is certainly All-Seeing of what you do.
(Quran, Surah Fussylat, 41: 40)
Be careful, O servants of Allah, to speak even one word about the Quran, about Allah, about the religion of Allah without knowledge, may Allah protect us!
Think about it! Abu Bakr al-Siddiq – the most truthful of this ummah, the best person in this ummah, the best person in general of all people after the prophets and messengers, when he was asked about the meaning of one of the verses of the Quran, the meaning of the word he did not know what it means in the Quran, he said these words:
“What soil will bear me, and what heavens will be able to cover me, if I say something about the Word of Allah that I do not know.” See Ibn Abi Shaybah, 6/136.
Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (the most truthful), may Allah be pleased with him, was afraid to say one word simply in his own opinion without knowledge and without understanding.
O servants of Allah! O Ummah of Islam! Magnify the Word of Allah!
That is why we, Muslims, are in such situation. And we all scream that we are being humiliated, we are being expelled, we are being killed. Why are we so humiliated? Yes, because we do not exalt the Word of Allah. Only if we exalt this Word, exalt it in our hearts, then we ourselves will be exalted. Magnify the Word of Allah in your hearts.
Know the price, know the position of Allah’s Scripture. The difference between the Qur’an and other words, between the words of people, is the same as the difference between Allah and creation. Therefore, all the time, in all our controversial issues, we must strictly turn for decisions, for judgment and for judgments to the Book of Allah – to the Quran!
Allah Almighty says:
فَإِن تَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ
إِن كُنتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ ذَلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا
O believers! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. Should you disagree on anything, then refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you ˹truly˺ believe in Allah and the Last Day. This is the best and fairest resolution.
(Quran, Surah an-Nisa, 4: 59)
Referring to the Sunnah is as important as referring to the Quran. Because the Sunnah is an explanation of the Quran. Because Allah Almighty says in the Quran that we must refer to the Sunnah:
وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا
Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it. And whatever he forbids you from, leave it
(Quran, Surah Al-Hashr, 59:7)
O servants of Allah! During the month of Ramadan, special attention should be paid to the Quran. And this is no coincidence and not surprising! After all, this is the month of the Quran, this is the month in which the Quran was revealed. Therefore, Jibril (peace be upon him) appeared to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) every Ramadan. And they went through the entire Quran from beginning to end. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) read the Quran to Jibril, and they verified it completely. And when it was the last year of the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), this reconciliation took place twice: the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) read the Quran twice with Jibril.
This is a reminder for you and me, O servants of Allah! This month (well, at least this month!) don’t let the Quran lie far from you, somewhere on a shelf. Of course, not only in this month, but always, but especially in this month, you need to read a lot of the Quran, reflect a lot on the Quran and reconsider your position, evaluate yourself: “How do I feel about this Scripture, which Allah has given me and to which Allah has brought me? How do I feel about it in terms of reading it, studying it, and doing it?”
And let us, O servants of Allah, this month show ourselves from the best side, show ourselves to Allah the most kind in relation to His Scripture. This month, let’s stock up on this good provision from the wonderful Book of Allah Almighty. Let us perform Jihad against our souls to read and be guided by the Qur’an.
Also Taraweeh prayer? Do not set it aside. In the hadith it was said:
He who observed prayer at night during Ramadan, because of faith and seeking his reward from Allah, his previous sins would be forgiven.
Ahmad (2/232), Al-Bukhari (38), Muslim(759, 760), Abu Dauh (1372), at-Tirmidhi (683), an-Nasai (4/157), Ibn Madjah (1641), Ibn Hibban (3432)
Also the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
When a man prays with an imam till he goes he is reckoned as having spent a whole night in prayer.
When a man prays with an imam till he goes he is reckoned as having spent a whole night in prayer.
Abu Daud (1375), an-Nasai (1364). The authenticity of the hadith has been confirmed by Abu’Isa at-Tirmidhi, ibn-Husaima, ibn-Hibban and al-Albani
…as having spent a whole night in prayer. Do not deprive yourself of this reward
We ask Allah Almighty to make us from Ahlul-Quran (from the people of the Quran). And as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
أهلُ القرآنِ أهلُ اللهِ
“The people of the Quran are the people of Allah.” That is, these are special slaves who are in a special account with Allah Almighty.
